Plan Your Visit

We are so excited to welcome you into the Lamplighters family! As a company that has been singing together in the Bay since 1952, we are thrilled to introduce you to a San Francisco tradition.

Who are Gilbert and Sullivan?

A duo from the Victorian era made up of W. S. Gilbert, a playwright, and Arthur Sullivan, a composer. In less than three decades, the duo wrote 14 comedic operas often dripping with satire and illogical situations sung over memorable melodies. They had international success with their shows, and their productions are still put on today around the world. Needless to say, we happen to be big fans!

What do I wear?

When in doubt, go for business casual! Some people like to dress more casually for matinee (afternoon) shows, and more formally for evening shows.

When do I applaud?

Our cast loves to hear shouts of joy, peals of laughter, and applause whenever you feel so inclined! We encourage gasps, cheers, and laughs; please don’t feel shy about making some noise (as long as your neighbors can still follow along!).

Can I bring kids?

We encourage it! Gilbert & Sullivan shows are great for audiences of all ages.

Performance Timeline:

Luckily, we won’t be putting on a whole 16-hour run of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, so you can expect to be home by a semi-reasonable hour after seeing one of our productions. The length of our productions vary widely (usually between two to three hours), so all members of the family can have an enjoyable experience.

Are there snacks/drinks?

On-site beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and snacks are available for sale at all four of our venues, and all venues are within walking distance to their respective downtown areas.

Where can I park?

There are parking garages next door to or within a few blocks of all of our venues. Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts offers free parking to show-goers!
