LAMPLIGHTERS CALLBACKS

The Mikado

Director: JANE ERWIN HAMMETT ♦ Conductor: MONROE KANOUSE

Thank you to all who auditioned! Out of a tremendously talented pool of auditionees, the directors have chosen the people they need to see for a callback. Those called back have received an email notifying them. If you auditioned for a principal role only and have not received such an email, thank you for auditioning, and don't be discouraged – often a director's choice has to do with his or her particular vision for a show, and many people who wind up in the "not right for this show" category are very talented, skilled, and wonderful – and may be absolutely the perfect choice for the next project they audition for! Everyone else is still eligible to be cast in the chorus. We will be in touch once the principal cast has been finalised. Thanks so much!

Callbacks will be held on Sunday, April 29 from 7.30 PM at 469 Bryant Street (the same place as the preliminary auditions).

AUDITIONING FOR THE LAMPLIGHTERS

We hold open auditions two to three times a year for all principal and chorus roles. In general, we are looking for strong singer/actors. Experience in Gilbert & Sullivan not necessary if you can sing and act the role. Some roles may be double-cast or understudied. Some shows/roles require better movement skills than others.

All auditions are by appointment only. We ask that you come to the preliminary audition with one song in English, preferably from opera or operetta, that you feel will show off your voice well. It is wise to choose material of about two to three minutes in length. An accompanist will be provided. Bring your music in the key in which you will sing it. Please bring your calendar so that you can give us any conflicts that you may have during the rehearsal period.

REHEARSALS:

Rehearsals are generally held on weekday evenings and weekends. A tentative schedule will be available at the preliminary auditions, and more detail will be provided as soon as available.

The Lamplighters is a non-profit, professional company. Principal singers are offered a flat fee for a role, usually in the range of $300 - $750. Chorus members are eligible for a small stipend to help offset costs such as purchasing a score, tights and footwear, voice lessons, travel and coaching, etc.

LAMPLIGHTERS AUDITIONS

for

Gilbert & Sullivan's

The Gondoliers

Director: BARBARA HEROUX ♦ Conductor: BAKER PEEPLES

Gilbert & Sullivan's twelfth collaboration, THE GONDOLIERS is the last of their commonly performed works. Sullivan had just been to Italy, and the resulting score for this story of babies switched at birth, secret childhood betrothals and political machinations is one of his most sunny and melodic. A huge and fun show set in sunny Venice and faraway Barataria, with nine principal roles, several good smaller roles, and tons for the chorus to do.

We strongly encourage performers of all ages and ethnicities to audition.
