The Pirates of Penzance
DIRECTOR: PHIL LOWERY
CONDUCTOR: MONROE KANOUSE
COSTUME DESIGN: MELISSA WORTMAN
CHOREOGRAPHER: ERICA SMITH

One of the most popular operas ever written, this swashbuckling classic comedy tells the tale of the pirate apprentice Frederic, who has a few surprises in store as he turns 21!

Featuring tender-hearted pirates, bumbling policemen, an eccentric Major-General and beautiful young maidens who wouldn't dream of marrying anybody who isn't rich, all contributing to one of the most uproarious operettas in the history of musical theatre... It's Gilbert at his witty best, with some of Sullivan's most memorable music.

Our 45th Annual Champagne Gala & Auction

◊ ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY ◊

A Lamplighters Gala is a unique experience - more fun-raiser than fundraiser - and if you haven't attended one you really are missing something special. Past Galas such as Rosencrantz & Guildenstern’s Excellent Adventure, Apocalypse Later, and Operetta, Get Me the Police! have won Best Original Show awards from the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle. The performance is a topical satire with an original libretto set to, mostly, the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan. Patrons are invited to come early to browse the many fabulous items in our silent auction which includes vacations, lessons, art and music, Lamplighters memorabilia, and one-of-a-kind experiences such as the chance to conduct an overture with our orchestra or a walk-on role in a performance. After the full-length show the audience are invited to join the costumed cast and crew in the green room for a champagne party!

The Yeomen of the Guard

DIRECTOR: BARBARA HEROUX ◊ CONDUCTOR: BAKER PEEPLES

A political prisoner is framed for a crime he didn't commit and catastrophe and hilarity ensue as others attempt to release him from the devious plot and secure his freedom. Featuring a lovesick jailor, a lovely young woman trapped in a marriage to an unknown man, and a jester who has lost his sense of humor, this dark comedy is the closest thing to grand opera in the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire. Containing some of Sullivan's finest work, Yeomen is considered the best of the canon by many G&S fans.

Trial by Jury
DIRECTOR: BARBARA HEROUX ◊ CONDUCTOR: BAKER PEEPLES

Last performed by The Lamplighters in 1997, Trial by Jury is Gilbert & Sullivan's perfect little musical comedy about a jilted bride suing her would-be groom. A one-act gem, Trial matches Gilbert’s delicious satire on the legal system with some of Sullivan’s most inventive and tuneful music. Their second collaboration, Trial by Jury is distinctive from the others in that it is sung through with no spoken dialog.

Engaged
DIRECTOR: BRUCE HOARD

Written by W.S. Gilbert, sans Sullivan, Engaged premiered in 1877, two years after Trial By Jury and is said to be the direct inspiration for Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. A humorous farce that begins in the Scottish borders, Engaged is a comic play, in Gilbert's trademark topsy-turvy style, about a man who is engaged to three women at once. This is the first time that The Lamplighters have produced a non-musical piece, a move that honors the 100th year of Gilbert’s death.
